ChatBot AI Chrome Extension

1. Introduction

Welcome to ChatBot AI, a Chrome browser extension developed by Dhruv Savaliya. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use the ChatBot AI extension. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our practices.

By installing and using the ChatBot AI extension, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Do NOT Collect

ChatBot AI is designed with privacy as a core principle. We do not collect, store, transmit, or share any of the following:

• Personally Identifiable Information (PII) such as your name, email address, age, or identification numbers

• Health or medical information

• Financial or payment information

• Authentication credentials, passwords, or security questions

• Personal communications (emails, texts, messages)

• Location data, IP addresses, or GPS coordinates

• Web browsing history or visited URLs

• User activity data such as clicks, mouse position, scroll behavior, or keystroke logs

• Website content including text, images, sounds, videos, or hyperlinks

3. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

ChatBot AI stores the following data exclusively on your local device using Chrome's built-in storage API (chrome.storage.local). This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us:

3.1 Chat History & Sessions

Your conversation history is saved locally so you can review past sessions within the extension. This data is stored only on your device and is deleted when you use the "Clear All History" feature or uninstall the extension.

3.2 Theme Preferences

Your selected display mode (Light or Dark) is saved locally to remember your preference between browser sessions.

You can delete all locally stored data at any time by:

• Using the "Clear All" button within the Chat History panel

• Uninstalling the ChatBot AI extension from Chrome

• Clearing extension data via Chrome Settings > Privacy and Security > Site Settings

4. Third-Party API Usage

ChatBot AI uses the OpenRouter API to process your chat messages and generate AI responses via the openai/gpt-oss-120b model. When you send a message:

• Your message text is transmitted securely to OpenRouter's API endpoint (openrouter.ai) over HTTPS

• The API processes your message and returns an AI-generated response

• We use the API key solely to authenticate requests — no personal identifying information is sent alongside messages

• OpenRouter's own privacy policy governs how they handle API request data

No third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, tracking scripts, or data brokers are used in this extension.

5. Chrome Permissions Requested

ChatBot AI requests the following Chrome permissions, limited strictly to what is necessary for core functionality:

5.1 storage

Used exclusively to save your chat history sessions and display theme preference locally on your device. No data is synced to external servers via this permission.

5.2 Remote Code (OpenRouter API)

The extension connects to api.openrouter.ai to process your chat messages using the Nvidia Nemotron AI model. This is the core function of the extension. No scripts or code are injected into web pages. All UI logic is bundled locally within the extension package.

6. Data Security

We take the security of your data seriously. The following measures are in place:

• All API communications are encrypted using HTTPS/TLS

• No user data is transmitted to our servers — we do not operate any backend infrastructure

• Chat history is stored locally using Chrome's sandboxed storage, inaccessible to other extensions or websites

• The extension does not inject content scripts into web pages

• A strict Content Security Policy (CSP) is enforced in the extension manifest

7. Children's Privacy

ChatBot AI is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child under 13 has used this extension to transmit personal information via the API, please contact us immediately so we can take appropriate steps.

8. Your Rights & Choices

Since we do not collect personal data on our servers, there is no account to request deletion of. However, you retain full control over locally stored data:

• Right to Delete: Clear all chat history and preferences at any time within the extension or via Chrome settings

• Right to Opt Out: Simply uninstall the extension to stop all local data storage and API communications

• Right to Know: This policy describes all data practices completely and transparently

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective Date" at the top of this document. Significant changes will be communicated through an update to the Chrome Web Store listing. Continued use of the extension after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
