1. Overview
Markly is a Chrome browser
extension that allows users to save, categorize, timestamp, and export website
bookmarks. This Privacy Policy explains how Markly handles your data.
The short version: Markly
collects no personal data, sends nothing to any server, and everything stays
entirely on your own device.
2. Data We Do Not Collect
Markly does NOT collect, store,
transmit, or share any of the following:
•
Personally identifiable
information (name, email, address, etc.)
•
Browsing history or web
activity beyond what you explicitly bookmark
•
Health, financial, or
authentication information
•
Location data or IP
addresses
•
Usage analytics or
behavioral data
•
Crash reports or diagnostic
data
•
Any data sent to external
servers, APIs, or third parties
3. Data Stored Locally on Your Device
Markly uses Chrome's built-in
chrome.storage.local API to save the following data exclusively on your device:
•
Bookmarked website URLs and
page titles
•
Timestamps (date and time)
of when each bookmark was saved
•
User-assigned categories
and optional notes
•
Custom category names you
create
•
Your dark/light theme
preference
This data never leaves your
device. It is not synced to any cloud service, server, or third-party system.
It is stored only in your local Chrome browser storage.
4. Chrome Permissions Used
Markly requests only the minimum
permissions necessary to function:
storage
Used to save your bookmarks,
categories, and theme preference locally on your device using
chrome.storage.local. No data is transmitted externally.
tabs
Used to read the title and URL of
the currently active browser tab when you click the Markly extension icon. This
allows the extension to pre-fill bookmark details. No tab history is recorded
or stored beyond what you explicitly save.
activeTab
Used to access the URL and title
of the tab you are currently viewing at the moment you interact with the
extension. No background or passive tab monitoring occurs.
5. Data Sharing & Third Parties
Markly does not share any data
with third parties — because no data is ever collected in the first place.
There are no:
•
Analytics providers
•
Advertising networks
•
Cloud storage integrations
•
Remote servers or APIs
•
Third-party SDKs or
tracking scripts
6. Children's Privacy
Markly does not knowingly collect
any data from any user, including children under the age of 13. Since no
personal data is collected at all, there is no special risk to minors.
7. Data Security
All data saved by Markly is stored
locally in your browser using Chrome's native chrome.storage.local mechanism.
The security of this data is governed by Chrome's own security model and your
device's operating system security.
We recommend keeping your Chrome
browser and operating system up to date to ensure the best security for all
locally stored browser data.
8. Excel Export Feature
Markly allows you to export your
bookmarks as a .xlsx (Excel) file. This export is generated entirely within
your browser and saved directly to your device's local Downloads folder.
No data from the export is
transmitted, uploaded, or shared with any external party.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy
from time to time. When we do, the updated version will be published with a new
effective date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
Since Markly collects no personal
data, any changes will primarily reflect updates to the extension's features or
Chrome platform requirements.
