01
Overview |
ScreenCap Pro is a Chrome browser extension that provides two
core functions: one-click screenshot capture and full-featured
screen/tab/webcam video recording. This Privacy Policy explains our data
practices in full.
We have designed this extension from the ground up to be
entirely local — your captures never leave your device, and we have no ability
to access them.

How the Extension Works |
All processing occurs locally on your device. Below is a
precise breakdown of each feature:
3.1 Screenshot Capture
•
Screenshots are
taken using Chrome's built-in chrome.tabs.captureVisibleTab API.
•
Captured images
are saved directly to your local Downloads folder.
•
No image data is
uploaded, cached remotely, or transmitted in any way.
3.2 Video Recording
•
Recordings use
Chrome's MediaRecorder API, processed entirely in the browser.
•
Video data is
held temporarily in browser memory during the active session only.
•
When recording
stops, the file is saved directly to your local Downloads folder.
•
No video stream
is uploaded, broadcast, or sent to any external endpoint.
3.3 Settings & Preferences
•
Preferences such
as capture source, audio toggles, quality, and format are saved locally via
Chrome's chrome.storage API.
•
These settings
remain on your device and are never synced to any external server.
3.4 Cursor Highlight Overlay
•
When enabled, a
visual ring is drawn around your cursor during recordings for presentation
clarity.
•
This is a purely
visual overlay — no page content is read, extracted, or transmitted.

Chrome Permissions & Justification |
The following table lists every permission requested by
ScreenCap Pro and the precise reason it is necessary:
|
Permission |
Why It Is
Required |
|
tabCapture |
Captures audio and video
from a specific browser tab when the user selects Tab as the recording
source. |
|
activeTab |
Takes a screenshot of the
currently visible tab when the user clicks Take Screenshot. |
|
tabs |
Identifies the correct
browser window for screenshot capture (popup runs in its own window context). |
|
storage |
Saves user preferences
locally on-device. No data leaves the device. |
|
offscreen |
Runs MediaRecorder in a
persistent background document so recording continues when the popup is
closed. |
|
downloads |
Saves completed screenshots
and recordings to the user's local Downloads folder. |
|
Host
(<all_urls>) |
Injects the cursor
highlight overlay onto any active page during recording. No page data is read
or collected. |
|
|
05
No Third-Party Services |
ScreenCap Pro does not integrate with, transmit data to, or
use any third-party service of any kind, including:
•
Analytics or
telemetry platforms (Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, etc.)
•
Advertising
networks or ad exchanges
•
Cloud storage or
file-hosting services
•
Remote APIs,
backend servers, or data brokers
•
Crash reporting
or error monitoring services
The extension makes zero outbound network requests during
normal operation.
|
|
06
Data Retention |
Since ScreenCap Pro does not collect any user data, there is
nothing for us to retain. The only data that exists is:
•
Your screenshots
and recordings — stored in your local Downloads folder, managed entirely by
you.
•
Your settings
preferences — stored in your browser's local storage, cleared when you
uninstall the extension.
|
|
07
Children's Privacy |
ScreenCap Pro is a general-purpose productivity tool not
directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from any
user, regardless of age. Since no data is collected at all, this policy applies
equally to all users.
|
|
08
Your Rights |
Because ScreenCap Pro collects no personal data, there is no
personal information held by us to access, correct, export, or delete. You
retain full ownership and control of everything you capture:
•
Your files are
yours — saved to your own device in your Downloads folder.
•
You can delete
them at any time by deleting the files from your device.
•
Uninstalling the
extension removes all locally stored settings.
|
|
09
Changes to This Policy |
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Any changes
will be reflected by an updated "Effective Date" at the top of this
document. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance
of the revised policy.
Because we collect no user data, no policy change will ever
affect your personal information.
